  1. Initial meeting: Elizabeth will meet with you to get to know the subject and to plan the size, pose, setting, and mood of the portrait. She will look at clothing selections and offer suggestions, if desired.

  1. Photo shoot: At a second meeting, 500-800 digital photographs will be taken for detailed references of the subject in various poses and surroundings. This process will take less than two hours. Scheduling may be affected by the weather. A Commission Contract will be signed and and a deposit of 30% of the final fee will be collected at this time.

  1. Composing the Portrait: Based on the results of the photo shoot, Elizabeth will recommend several compositional plans for you to choose from. Often, successful portraits combine the best elements of several different reference photographs. In the unlikely event that no pose is satisfactory, a second photo shoot can be scheduled. The process of reviewing reference photos and selecting the final pose can be accomplished by telephone and email if more convenient.

  1. The Painting Process: Most portraits, though not all, begin with a detailed monochrome underpainting to establish value and likeness. This underpainting will be posted under Works in Progress so that you can follow the progress of your portrait and suggest alterations if desired.

5. Presentation: The finished portrait will be delivered to the client or to a mutually agreed-upon gallery for framing. The final 70% of the fee is due at this time.
