Elizabeth Jordan earned her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans in 1988, and graduated cum laude from Tulane Law School in 1993. With the birth of her first son she retired from law and returned to her artistic roots, inspired by the exquisite loveliness found in the faces of children. For the past 15 years Elizabeth has devoted herself to creating beautiful childrens' portraiture. Using dozens of layers of painstakingly applied colored pencil, she creates sensitive yet vivid images that reflect the magic and beauty of childhood.

Her ability to achieve a striking likeness to the model begins with a photography session designed to establish a sense of the child’s unique personality and to reveal it by means of clothing, perspective, hue, lighting, and background. Working from the best features of several reference shots, Elizabeth spends many hours carefully developing a monochrome composition, then applying layer upon layer of vivid color to bring the subject to life. The resulting portrait displays both delicacy and depth, combining graceful realism with artistic interpretation in a way that is unique to the colored pencil medium.

Elizabeth’s work has been featured on the cover of New Orleans City Business Magazine, in Gambit Magazine, Lipstick Magazine, the Hale Boggs Federal Building, the Archdiocese of Birmingham, and many private collections. She is a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and the Mountain Brook Art Association.

When Elizabeth is not painting children, she is often painting on children - applying her artistic skills to creating imaginative face and body art to delight the young and the young at heart. Although each face painting takes only moments as opposed to months, they demonstrate the same vivid color and attention to detail as her more lasting work.
